Fermented Probiotic Tea = A Daily Cup of Kombucha♥
What if a carbonated probiotic drink could change your health?!
The word probiotic got my attention. Six years ago I bought my first bottle of Kombucha. It was love at first sip!!!
My gut loved the probiotics and I enjoyed the fizz and flavor. After researching the history of kombucha and all of it’s health benefits, it had to be part of my daily routine.
Purchasing kombucha at the store can be pricey,as the average price is $3.69 bottle. The great news is it can easily be brewed at home. So five years ago, my husband bought me the BEST birthday gift……. a SCOBY starter kit! (He bought mine here) I purchased the necessary materials right away, watched a youtube video on how to brew my own KT (kombucha tea) and have been brewing since!
What is Kombucha?
Kombucha is a traditional fermented drink made with water, black tea, (or green tea), and cane sugar. It basically is a sweet tea that is fermented with a culture, called a SCOBY. SCOBY is an acronym for symbiotic colony of bacteria and yeast. The SCOBY feeds off the sugar in the tea, consuming up to 90% of the sugar, making it a functional food.

When to drink kombucha and how much should you drink?
After I get up in the morning, I start my day with 6-8 oz. of kombucha every single day!!! In addition to that initial drink, I add approximately another 4-6 oz. of kombucha during the day; usually mid-morning and mid-afternoon.
It is a great idea to slowly introduce your body to kombucha. I recommend beginning with 4 oz. at a time and slowly increase your amount over the course of a couple of weeks.

The stand-by flavor is ginger!
I purchase organic ginger root at my local grocery store, wash it, peel it, and slice it thin.
Tip: place prepared slices into a freezer bag and freeze for future brewing. It is important to chose berries that are grown without pesticides or herbicides.
Tip: Pick raspberries, blueberries, and strawberries locally, as they come into season. Once picked, freeze enough to last until the next picking season!
