I’ll offer methods and tips that have worked for myself and my kids, in hopes they will bring relief for you as well. Allergies are tough!
They usually appear due to deeper issues like an inflammatory response, hormonal changes, chronic stress, and compromised immune system.
Let’s explore a few tips to bring you relief!
Defining Allergy
You probably have your own definition of allergies; misery, congestion, restless nights, coughing, ear infections, and trying to figure out what the trigger is THIS time.
However, the real definition is a hypersensitivity of the immune system, basically our bodies overreacting to harmless substances. When our body reacts it produces a chemical called a histamine. Histamines are what give us all grief.

Whatever your reason for trying alternative allergy relief, I hope that you find these helpful. My family has used or still uses all 12 tips!
6 Tips to Reduce Allergies Quickly
- Local Raw Honey. Take 1 T. of local raw honey every day. Honey harvested within a 30 mile radius is most effective.
- Herbal Teas. Daily drinking peppermint tea, licorice tea, holy basil tea and/or ginger tea benefits allergy sufferers. Stinging nettle tea fights histamines and it works wonders! I drank stinging nettle tea every day when I was pregnant and I needed no over the counter meds. (Note, add local honey to nettles tea as it’s quite bitter.)
- Take Vitamin C. The key is quality vitamin C, not synthetic. Take frequent low doses on a regular basis. Ideally 500 mg. every hour during the course of day. Vitamin C reduces histamines naturally. Consistently take during a flare-up.
- Essential oils. Two oils that stand out are Lavender oil and Frankincense oil. Eucalyptus oil relieves the nasal passages and allows for clear breathing. Keep reading for a roll-on recipe!
- Nasal Cleansing. Use a neti pot and/or a nasal irrigation spray throughout allergy season.
- Liver Cleanse. Our liver plays a huge role in processing histamines. At the start of allergy season cleanse your liver to aid in relieving allergies. Gaia Herbs Liver Cleanse Tea.
6 Tips to Reduce Allergies – long term
- Reducing inflammation in our body. Eat foods that are nutrient-dense and non-inflammatory. Check out my Pinterest board for ideas on lowering inflammation through food choices.
- Remove gluten from your diet. Gluten has an inflammatory reaction for those suffering from allergies. Removing grains from your diet will decease the inflammation load a greater level.
- Improve your gut health. Histamines are “released” from the gut. Drink quality bone broth during allergy season. If you suffer from year round allergies; take a quality probiotic 1-3x daily, like New Chapter All Flora Probiotic.
- Daily Quercetin. Quercetin is found in foods such as cauliflower, onions, apples, organic black/green tea and broccoli. It is known for it’s ability to boost the immune system and reduce allergy symptoms. Quercetin works even better when it’s paired with Bromelain and taken year round.
- Consume Cultured Apple Cider Vinegar regularly. 1 tsp. in 4 oz. of water. To enhance the drink, add a sprinkle of cinnamon and lemon. Continue taking before and during allergy season for a noticeable difference.
- Incorporate garlic, beets and broccoli sprouts into your weekly diet to aid in detoxing your liver. Our liver becomes congested from processing histamines. Your Life on Histamines explains the process in detail.

Nasal Spray
Our family has been using XLEAR nasal spray for many years. It’s easy to use, contains simple natural ingredients, non-addictive, gently cleansing of nasal passages, and the contents remain sterile throughout your use.
When my daughters were young, they dreaded this part of prevention, but it works! Now they both chose to use nasal irrigation sprays each time they are exposed to known indoor & outdoor allergens.
Essential Oil Recipe
Apply the oils using the roll on applicator to your wrists and bottoms of your feet. This same combination can be used in a diffuser just omit the fractionated coconut oil.
Alternative Relief from Seasonal Allergies
The best tip that takes the most amount of effort is reducing the inflammation in your body.
One way to reduce that inflammation is not consume trigger foods such as gluten, refined sugar, corn, alcohol and vegetable oils. My family has completely removed gluten from our diet AND we consume more vegetables, which makes the biggest difference.
Prevention is another key! The Xlear nasal spray is effective as a preventive and during an flare-up. Before allergy season hits, begin to take a quality vitamin C in small doses throughout your day, ideally 500 mg. 10 times during the day. (Vitamin C is a water soluble vitamin and can’t be stored in our bodies like other vitamins.)
Be Prepared. Chose natural medicine(s) to have handy in your pantry.
