Congratulations on sticking with me for the 21 Days to Intentional Health!!! They were not easy challenges and I know I will need more than a few days to complete many of them. I truly hope it gave you a wonderful and healthy start to the new year!
This last challenge is one that you’ll work on over the course of 12 months! Simple little steps that I’ll refer to as the focus for that month. Check out the “keys to success” under each focus as well.
12 Monthly Steps to Better Health Challenge
- Every month you’ll focus on one “step” to improving our health. Be mindful of this focus for 28-31 days, depending on the length of the given month.
- Enjoy creating new healthier habits.
Start whenever you are ready! If you miss a month, pick right back up with the next month. We’ll do this together!!
Focus Step: Portion Control.
Keys to Success:
Use a small plate. Keep meat portions to the size of the back of your hand. Balance those portions with protein, veggies, and carbs. 9 Tips to Measure and Control Portions goes into more details, so you can be successful this month!
Focus Step: Fuel Your Day with Breakfast
Keys to Success:
Plan out what you’ll eat for breakfast either at the beginning of the week or the night before. Think of consuming protein like eggs, organic sausage, soups, and incorporate veggies in as much as possible. Quick and Easy Healthy Breakfast Ideas.
Focus Step: Water is your main drink.
Keys to Success:
Buy yourself a reusable water bottle and fill it up at the start of the day. Be cautious of how many times you refill it. Drinks to Your Improve Your Health.
Focus Step: Adopt an exercise routine.
Keys to Success:
You’ll need to decide on what type of exercise you’ll enjoy (or your body would benefit from) and stick with it! Examples are walking, biking, lifting weights, yoga stretches, and even indoor rock climbing.
Keep going! Great job on committing to pursing better health each and every month. It’s a process that takes time and intentionality!
Focus Step: Keep a Food Journal.
Keys to Success:

Focus Step: Unplug and unwind.
Keys to Success:
Step away from technology more frequently this month. Get out and enjoy a walk, swim or relaxing in the sunshine. Refresh your memory and read Living Well with Less Technology.
Focus Step: Plan your Meals.
Keys to Success:
Plan your meals for one week at a time. The goal is to not skip any meals this month. By planning your meals, you’ll not overeat. The best part is you are fueling your metabolism for all day energy.
Focus Step: Concentrate on eating your vegetables.
Keys to Success:
Eating the Rainbow in Vegetables will encourage you! You’ll want to begin to incorporate a variety of different vegetables into your diet. Consciously buy vegetables you can prepare and eat on a weekly basis.
Focus Step: Develop a Sleep Routine.
Keys to Success:

Focus Step: Smile more.
Keys to Success:
Wake up each morning and remind yourself you need to smile more. When you’re tempted to get frustrated throughout your day, stop and think pleasant thoughts that bring a smile to your face. Engage in an activity that makes you laugh or smile.
Focus Step: Spend quality time with the people you love.
Keys to Success:
Set aside time in your day for real conversations. While you spend time with the people in your life, express your thankfulness for them.
Focus Step: Develop Healthy Habits & Be Ready to Succeed.
Keys to Success:
You’ll need to make a commitment to your health and stick with it. Develop healthy habits such as creating a meal plan and exercise routine. Even record health goals for the next several months. Remove hinderances in your life that inhibit your success. Read Say Good-Bye To Unhealthy Habits.

Extra: Be present in life! Set aside the things that distract you and take in your surroundings and the people in your life. This will aid in developing a heart and life full of gratitude. Commit to complimenting more than complaining.
Developing a healthy life takes thought and work! If it was easy, we would see less disease and illness. Unfortunately we do not have a cure or pill that does the trick. It’s a conscious effort to move towards healthy mental and physical choices.
Challenge: Commit to working one step each month for 12 consecutive months.
