I’m sure you’ve heard that drinking chicken soup or chicken broth will ease cold symptoms and even shorten the duration of a cold. Does this idea have health-related merit?
We’ll look at the different types of bone broth and the health benefits of bone broth. A “health trend” that has stayed the course over centuries. Amazing!!
My Personal Story with the Ancient Health Tonic
I’ve been making bone broth for almost twenty years. It’s one of the most fulfilling healthy living “chores” I do. The richer the color of the broth, the more excited I get about drinking it. I truly love making and serving a wholesome soup with it for my family.
Personally I like bone broth for many reasons, it makes my gut happy, it uses the bones from my roast, meaning their is little waste, and it’s easy to do!
When I make chicken bone broth, it’s usually right after I’ve roasted a chicken in my crock pot. I’ll separate the meat to serve with vegetables and keep all the bones and such in the crock pot. I add water and let it simmer on low in my crock pot from 16-24 hours. For more details check out Homemade Chicken Broth Recipe.
I also have made bone broth from turkey bones, venison bones and beef bones. Venison bone broth is my least favorite broth to prepare, drink and use. Although the dogs LOVE it on their dinner. I usually purchase beef bones when they are available at the local organic grain and meat store.
Now, you know a bit of my history when it comes to making, eating and fixing meals with bone broth. Let’s look to see what the the big deal is about consuming bone broth.
Why is Bone Broth Good For You?
First, I’ll define exactly what makes up bone broth.
It’s the liquid that contains bones and connective tissues from an animal. Bone broth is typically made from chickens, turkeys, cows, wild game and fish.
When you add celery stocks and/or onions to your broth you get added benefits from those vegetables as well.
