Cinnamon & Coconut Sugar Toppings
I’m a big fan of coconut sugar and cinnamon! I love it on grain free pita or grain free Chebe rolls. It’s even better baked into a small doughnut hole.
Let’s not overlook the nutritional benefits of consuming cinnamon! Cinnamon naturally has anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. It also has been known to stabilize blood sugar levels and be soothing to the gut.
Cinnamon and Coconut Sugar make a wonderful topping for grain free doughnut holes. You only need 1 tablespoon of each!
Chocolate Lovers Doughnut Topping
I like variety when it comes to doughnuts. Adding a chocolate topping to half the batch of doughnuts seemed like a tasty option!
Note: Half the batch of doughnuts will be baked plain. Once they are cooled, you add the organic melted chocolate to the top of the doughnut. And just for fun, add a few organic sprinkles on top!
Doughnut Holes are quick and easy to prepare. When you have a few minutes and need a special snack or quick breakfast option, these doughnuts come together quickly.
Prepare the batter, roll half the batch in the cinnamon and coconut sugar mixture, cool, and bake! Keep reading for the full recipe and details.
When choosing to make the chocolate covered doughnut holes, you will want to bake the doughnut holes plain and top with melted chocolate chips.
Space about a inch apart on unbleached parchment paper. They will rise slightly. If you desire the true round shape of a doughnut hole, I would recommend using room temperature butter, and chilling the doughnut holes for 20 minutes before baking.

Grain Free Doughnut Holes
Grain free. Gluten free. Tree nut free.
Ingredients
- ½ c. organic butter
- 1 c. arrowroot flour
- ½ c. coconut flour Nutiva brand
- ½ c. coconut sugar
- 1 large egg, organic
- ½ tsp. pure vanilla extract
- pinch of sea salt
- 1 T. ground cinnamon, organic set aside
- 1 T. coconut sugar set aside
- 1/4-1/2 c. Enjoy Life semi-sweet chocolate chips set aside
Instructions
-
Preheat oven to 350°. In a small sauce pan, soften your butter, please do not melt! (If possible, room temperature soft butter is ideal.) Place butter in a mixing bowl. Add coconut sugar and vanilla. Using a hand mixer, beat until creamy.
-
Next add in the sea salt and egg. Beat until mixed together.
-
Add coconut flour and arrowroot flour. Beat until mixture is smooth. Set aside for 1 minute. This allows for the batter to firm up.
-
Line a large baking sheet with unbleached parchment paper.
-
In a small bowl, add the 1 T. of cinnamon and 1 T. of coconut sugar. Stir. Make 12 tablespoon size “doughnut holes” and roll them in the cinnamon/sugar mixture. Place them on the parchment paper.
-
Make 12 tablespoon size doughnut holes and leave them plain. Place them on the parchment paper. Cool for 20 minutes to ensure the doughnut holes keep their shape.
-
Bake at 350° for 12-15 minutes. The bottoms of the doughnut holes will appear slightly brown. Be careful not to over bake, as this will dry out the holes.
-
Cool on a wire rack. Once the 12 plain ones are cool, begin to melt Enjoy Life chocolate chips in a small sauce pan on low heat. Stir the chocolate chips until they are melted. Using a butter knife or frosting knife apply the chocolate to the plain doughnut holes. Let them cool on a wire rack.
-
Store in an airtight container for 2-3 days in the pantry. Up to 5 days in the refrigerator.
