The Key Ingredients
We’ll start by gathering our ingredients. Frozen or fresh blueberries work very well for this recipe.
Only two grain-free flours are needed for this recipe!
- Cassava flour
- Arrowroot flour
Cassava flour is made by drying and grounding the cassava root. It’s a unrefined grain free flour. It works wonders in recipes because it gives baked goods natural texture, that resembles traditional baked goods.
Arrowroot flour can also go by the name of arrowroot starch or arrowroot powder. Different names for the same product! The arrowroot looks similar to a cassava root and is processed similar. It’s not processed with high heat or chemicals. Arrowroot flour is unrefined leaving all the nutrient value.
Blueberries contain numerous nutrients and are high in anti-oxidants. Learn more at The Powerful Nutrients in Berries.
Grain Free Blueberry Doughnuts (with white chocolate topping)
Now, let’s get started with making tasty blueberry doughnuts! I begin with greasing my doughnut pans with unrefined coconut oil.
Preheat your oven to 395º. Doughnuts bake a higher temperature for less time. You’ll be amazed at how quickly these bake. Make a note to not over bake your doughnuts!
Cream your softened butter, maple syrup, coconut sugar and eggs together. Add your dry ingredients and stir until everything is blended well. Next, add your blueberries.
Chopping blueberries isn’t always necessary, however it does distribute the flavor more thoroughly throughout the batter.
I use the Pampered Chef Cutting Edge Food Chopper and the blueberries come out perfectly!
Chop your frozen blueberries and add them to the batter.
Frozen blueberries added to the batter. Now gently fold them throughout the batter. Begin filling your greased doughnut molds with batter. Fill 8. Bake 7-8 minutes.
Remove from the oven and cool for 4-5 minutes. Use a small paring knife to gently lift the doughnuts out of the mold and onto a wire rack to finish cooling.

Grain free blueberry doughnuts are soft and lightly sweetened by themselves. However, if you chose, add the optional maple glaze. It definitely adds more texture, taste and deliciousness!
The Maple Glaze is so simple! In a small saucepan melt 3 T. organic butter or coconut oil, add 3 T. pure maple sugar, 1 T. tapioca flour and stir until thickened.
